Visakhapatnam: Authorities in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have stepped up preparedness as Cyclone Arnab approaches the eastern coastline of India. According to the weather forecast cited in media reports, the storm was expected to make landfall near the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28. Heavy rainfall, strong winds and possible flooding have raised concerns across vulnerable coastal areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has been monitoring the system over the Bay of Bengal. Forecasts cited in the report indicated that wind speeds could reach 115–125 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching 140 kmph in some areas. Residents in coastal districts have been advised to follow official weather warnings and take precautions.
Authorities in Andhra Pradesh have intensified emergency preparations to minimise potential damage. Arrangements include preparing shelters, coordinating rescue teams and ensuring that emergency services are ready to respond. Strong winds could damage trees, electricity poles, temporary structures and other vulnerable infrastructure.
The developing weather conditions have also raised concerns about transport services. Some train services may be cancelled or rescheduled as a precaution, while flight operations could be affected by adverse weather. Passengers have been advised to check the latest updates through official railway and airline channels before travelling.
Southern Odisha is also on alert because of the possibility of heavy rainfall and strong winds. Districts including Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri are among the areas where authorities are focusing on preparedness and public safety. Emergency teams are expected to assist residents in vulnerable locations if conditions deteriorate.
Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the sea while authorities work to ensure that boats return to safer locations. Officials are also focusing on communicating warnings to coastal communities and preparing for possible disruptions to electricity, road connectivity and essential services.
Authorities continue to monitor the cyclone's movement and potential impact. Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, stay away from flooded areas and damaged electrical infrastructure, and rely on official updates from the IMD and local administration.
