US-Iran Tensions Escalate After Fresh Strikes, Fragile Peace Agreement Faces Uncertainty

Fresh military strikes exchanged between the United States and Iran have raised fresh concerns over the future of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was aimed at reducing tensions and preventing further conflict in the Middle East.

The latest escalation came after the United States accused Iran of being linked to an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, US forces launched targeted strikes against Iranian military installations, including missile and drone-related facilities. Iran rejected the allegations and described the US action as a violation of the peace framework before announcing retaliatory strikes on US-linked military positions in the region.

The MoU, brokered earlier this month through international mediation, was intended to maintain a ceasefire, ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and create a roadmap for negotiations on sanctions, nuclear issues and regional security. Despite the latest hostilities, neither Washington nor Tehran has officially withdrawn from the agreement.

Security experts believe both countries are attempting to avoid a full-scale war while continuing to demonstrate military strength. However, the renewed exchange of attacks has significantly increased uncertainty surrounding the implementation of the agreement.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most strategically important shipping routes, carrying nearly one-fifth of global oil supplies. Any prolonged disruption in the region could affect international energy markets and global trade.

Diplomatic efforts are expected to continue in the coming days as mediators seek to prevent further escalation and preserve the peace framework. The coming weeks are likely to determine whether the agreement survives its first major security challenge.
